Our win-win Philosophy The SIU is a value-based organisation where adherence to values is paramount. Our core values are: integrity, cooperation, professionalism, drive and effectiveness. Cooperation underpins our win-win philosophy where we try and instill the belief in everyone that every relationship should result in greater credit for our partner, client or stakeholder. This approach has resulted in successful relationships with various law enforcement partners, client departments, private sector and civil society stakeholders. Examples of our win-win philosophy: - In the social grants project the Commercial branch of the SAPS facilitates the registration of criminal dockets and reports the convictions as successes on their books, whilst the convictions acts as a deterrence for potential offenders leading to a reduction in fraudulent social grant claims and ultimately a saving to government.
- The SIU also interacts with the Anti-Corruption Coordinating Committee and advises on the improvement of Anti-Corruption policy.
- The Unit’s involvement with the Institute for Security Studies on the social grants research project resulted in a deeper understanding of the causes of social grant fraud and the effectiveness of the SIU’s approach.
- The relationship with the National Prosecuting Authority means that the SIU lawyers assist with prosecutions, which has resulted in 10 000 prosecutions since the commencement of the social grants project.
- The SIU’s relationship with UNISA will result in the development of a curriculum for Forensic Investigators and an accredited 3-year course.
- This cooperation extends to SIU members in the regions being involved in social responsibility programmes, e.g. Aids orphans project in the Eastern Cape.
The SIU firmly believes that any relationship should benefit the other party more than the SIU itself to ensure greater success for the larger majority of the affected population
