Govt officials in the dock for corruption, fraud
13 December 2005
Eighty-two officials of the department of social services in the Western Cape will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's court today on charges of fraud and corruption.
The officials are estimated to have defrauded the social grant system of about R300 000. Simphiwe Xako, the department's spokesperson, says the arrests follow a joint operation with the Special Investigation Unit.
